‘and We will test your affair’Posted: July 17, 2012 | |
Ibrahim bin Al-Ash’hath said:
I heard Fudhail bin ‘Iiadh crying at night while reciting Surat Mohammed repeating this verse:
“And We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you [for the cause of Allah] and the patient, and We will test your affairs” [47:31]
He kept repeating ‘and We will test your affairs’ and said, ‘If You test our affairs, You would humiliate us and remove our veils. If You test our affairs, You will punish us‘ and he cried.
[Tareekh Dimishq, 48/410]
The mercy of Allah is great. He has given much to be thankful of and yet, we have done so little. He conceals our sins, night and day, and repents them. He is Patient, Merciful, and so ever Kind. He is As-Saboor, Al-Raheem, and Al-Kareem. Have you ever reflected on the blessings you have? Try to count them and you’ll spend an eternity in the endeavor. One of greatest blessing is that when you slip and commit a mistake, he veils it from everyone. What if our sins had an aroma…what would we smell like or who would be able to tolerate us? Not at all. Allah Ta’ala loves to conceal your wrongdoings in hope that you’ll return to Him in repentance. If you knew Allah, you would indeed rush yourself to Him with obedience.
Furthermore, we should beware of boasting or flaunting our sins openly. It’s bad enough that we’ve sinned but to go around spreading immorality, making light of religion, and speaking of what Allah dislikes, a serious sin with a severe punishment. The Prophet (salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) said:
All of my ummah will be forgiven except those who sin openly. It is a part of sinning openly when a man does something at night, then the following morning when Allaah has concealed his sin, he says, ‘O So and so, I did such and such last night,’ when all night his Lord has concealed him and the next morning he uncovers what Allaah had concealed.
(Al-Bukhari, 5721; Muslim, 2990)
After all, when the day of Judgment arrives, we will be reminded of all ours sins…one by one. Our hands, our tongue, our eyes, and each body parts will speak either for us or against us. The situation tomorrow is not as it seems to you today while you sit comfortably in your chair reading this…tomorrow it’s tremendously different. Tomorrow, whether we choose to accept it now or not, will be one big slide show of everything we have done here in this world…every second.
The choice is yours, and may Allah guide you always to the best choice.
