6 days in ShawalPosted: August 18, 2012
Fasting six days from the month of Shawal is a recommended Sunnah fast and one we that should try to follow. In a Sahih hadith reported by Muslim and others, the Messenger of Allah (salah allahu ‘alayi wa salam) said: “Whoever fasts Ramadaan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime”. The reward of fasting these six days is equal in reward to fasting one full year of obligatory fasts. In addition, it will fill any shortcoming in our Ramadan fast.
The six days can be fasted in any order in the month of Shawal whether consecutively or separately so long as its done within the span of the month. Please note that it is not permitted to fast during the first day of Eid. A person can begin immediately from the second day onward. Also, one should make-up any missed fast first before attempting to fast Shawal as making-up obligatory duty takes precedence.
May Allah accept our deeds..
