‘Don’t you feel lonely?’Posted: September 5, 2012 | |
Na’eem bin Hamad said: Ibn Al-Mubarak used to frequently sit at home. It was said to him: ‘Don’t you feel lonely?’ He said, ‘How do I feel lonely if I am with the Prophet (salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) and his companions?!’
[Al-Siyar (Tahdhibiya), 2/766]
Subhanna Allah, their hearts were attached to the akhira and to the people of the akhira. The Salaf were of high caliber. The Prophet (salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) and the companions meant a lot to them. To be secluded at home, reading about the Sunnah and the Companions, and following their stories was an aspect of knowledge that weighed heavily on their lives.
When was the last time we felt such joy of reading about the Prophet (salah allahu ‘alayhi wa salam) and the Sahabah? If our lives was surrounded by their example, we would never feel lonely. All we have to do is reflect at their tales and heroics and know the magnitude of faith that resided in their hearts. We would dedicate our lives to following their teachings and walking in their footsteps.
